Charlie Dane


Hometown: Oyster Bay, New York

Charlie Dane is an accomplished singer and guitar player with over 8 years of training. She first picked up the guitar at age five and practices daily. Currently Charlie plays mostly pop and rock music, but those who have heard her say that she has a timeless and soulful quality about her. Charlie is an eigth grader at Oyster Bay High School and has spent her last 6 summers at the Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts.

Charlie Dane has performed live as a young amateur solo artist (over 100 shows in the last 18 months!). Charlie Dane 2012She has appeared in front of large groups at venues such as the Town of Oyster Bay’s Cruise Night, music festivals, NYC hot spots and stages across the country. She was selected as a winner of the 2010 & 2011 Town of Oyster Bay Arts Council Talent Competition and also won the Morgan Park 2010 Young Performers Talent Competition. She won the Artist Live Boston Teen Series talent competition in 2011.  She recently performed at the Autism Speaks Walk at Jones Beach Field 5. In 2010 Charlie opened up for Eric Krasno at Sullivan Hall and in 2011 for Papa Grows Funk at Hiro Ballroom at a benefit to help Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. Charlie recently drew a huge crowd performing at the Huntington Fall Festival at Heckscher Park. Charlie has played several times at The Bitter End in NYC from the recognition that she received at their “Chick Singer Night” performance.  She also headlined for two years in a row at a CCFA (Crohns Colitis Foundation of America) charity bowling event, “Strike Out Crohns”.  Charlie sang “God Bless America” and the national anthem at two New York Islander hockey games at Nassau Coliseum.  She has been featured on several local radio stations where she was interviewed and played her original music live in studio.

These past two summers, Charlie has been playing at music festivals such as South By Southwest, Gathering Of The Vibes, Great South Bay Music Festival, Equifunk, the 27 and 28th annual Oyster Festivals as well as for Camps R Us and Girl Scout Summer Camps.

When Charlie performs, people are naturally drawn to her and moved by her confidence and poise. She is currently recording in studio and is working on original pieces and finishing her 10 song CD.  Her songs are a reflection of who she is and what she has experienced in her life.  She writes about loss, regret, fears, hope and the importance of being an individual who is not afraid to be herself.

Charlie Dane is an accomplished artist and writer. She is the winner of the Nassau Region PTA Helen B. Vandermosten Arts-in-Education award for visual arts. She was granted the Anthony Petrovic Memorial Foundation Award for outstanding artistic ability at her Middle school graduation. She is also the 1st place winner of the Phyllis Wilens award in the Kenneth F. Gambone Writing Contest. In addition, she has won first place in visual arts for the PTA Reflections Contest in Oyster Bay for the past five years. Her entries went to the State finals three years in a row.

When she was 8 years old, Charlie started a business doing airbrush tattoos for special events.  Four years later, Squid Ink continues to be successful booking parties, kids events and school fairs year-round.

Charlie’s talent and creativity comes through in everything that she does although her true passion and strength has always been her music!
